Glen Edwin Sweitzer's Obituary
Glen Edwin Sweitzer, 91, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away November 19, 2023, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Glen was born in Decatur on January 29, 1932, the son of William and Tillie (Franzen) Sweitzer. He served proudly in the US Navy during the Korean War. He worked for years as a printer for Rand McNally and later worked in the water department for the City of Decatur. He married Jean Anderson on February 18, 1961, in Decatur. She preceded him in death in 2014. Glen was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Decatur. He and Jean loved to travel, and they attended many Navy Tin Can Sailor reunions around the country together. Glen was a passionate collector of clocks, and he spent many hours building, repairing, and setting them. He also loved nature and wildlife. He and Jean opened their hearts and homes to many cats through the years.
Glen is survived by his sons Phil (Jan) Sweitzer of Decatur and Gary (Amy) Sweitzer of Mt. Zion; brother Clyde (Sue) Sweitzer of Decatur; grandchildren Lindsay Sweitzer, Matthew Sweitzer, and Rachel Sweitzer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, and his stepbrother Ralph Franzen.
Visitation for Glen will be from 10am to 11am on Monday, November 27 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 11am at the funeral home. Burial in Macon County Memorial Park will follow the service.
