Greg R Freeman's Obituary
Greg R. Freeman, 29, of Mt. Zion, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016, at his home.
Greg was born June 17, 1987 in Decatur, to Jeffrey and Marsha (Elliff) Freeman. He was a 2005 graduate of Mt. Zion High School and went on to study mathematics at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Recently, he had been furthering his education at Richland Community College in Decatur. While attending college, he worked for Fed Ex in Urbana and UPS in Urbana.
Greg was a caring and intelligent person. He enjoyed everything Honda, including his red Honda Prelude, which could always be spotted driving down the road. He also had a big heart for animals, especially cats. He had many cats over the years. Most recently he spent time with two cats, Fred, an onry orange tabby and Bandit, otherwise known as George.
He is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Marsha Freeman of Mt. Zion; two brothers, Rodney (Misty) Freeman of Mt. Zion and Mike Freeman of Bethany; two sisters, Cindy (Rick) Nystrom of Minier and Becky (Scott) Ford of Assumption; his maternal grandmother, Rose (Elliff) Neathery; his nephews, Derek Freeman, Cole and Braden Nystrom and Clayton Ford; Nieces Lily Ford and Chloe Nystrom; his two aunts, Marilyn Kellogg and Emily (Mike) Tindill; one uncle, Randy (Diane) Elliff; and many other wonderful cousins and extended family members.
Greg is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Frances Freeman; his maternal grandfather, William T. Elliff and step-grandfather, Ralph Neathery.
Services to celebrate the life of Greg Freeman will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County.
