Gregory Burgett's Obituary
April 10, 1954 - October 11, 2022 Gregory “Greg” Harold Burgett, husband, father of four, “papa” of seven, and friend of many found great purpose in his livelihood of farming and continuing to establish deep family roots in Latham, the town he lived in for 68 years. He married his best friend and built-in business partner, Connie Lynn Bree, on August 2nd of 1980. Together they embarked on adventurous feats, as he loved traveling the world for any opportunity to use his pilot and helicopter licenses and deep-sea scuba diving certification. He loved reminiscing about the exotic places he's traveled including New Zealand, Cayman Islands, Tahiti, Australia, and many more. As a proud Dad, he also never passed up an opportunity to travel to watch his son, Eric, perform.
His love for all things that grow was on full display when he and his wife of 42 years established Connie’s Country Greenhouse. He loved his family business because it brought him happy family memories with his children.
Greg was a member of Latham United Methodist Church. He dedicated his life to surrounding himself with agriculture, including building a full-service restaurant, The Korn Krib, and personal swimming pool out of grain bins. This was a hallmark trait of his - doing things his own way. He never tried to be anyone but himself. Greg was a long-time local Illini Special Drainage Commissioner and worked hard to follow in his dad's footsteps as a farmer. Working on old cars and talking to anyone who would listen about farming pastimes were hobbies of his.
His grandchildren were special to him, and he loved to rough house with them to make them tough. They brought him an unexplainable joy that melted his heart and nothing was more important to him than seeing his grandkids play together.
Greg is survived by his wife: Connie; his children: Elliott Burgett (Alisha) of Latham, Tara (Burgett) Conaway (Dane) of Normal, Eric Burgett (Aimee) of Mount Juliet, TN, and Evan Burgett (Savanah) of Latham; and grandchildren: Camden, Emmett, and Easton Burgett (Elliott/Alisha); Wynston, Edyson, and Grahym Conaway (Tara/Dane); and Raelynn Burgett (Evan/Savanah); his brothers: Gary (Sally) and Jeff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Harriet Burgett.
