Harold W. Tish's Obituary
Harold W. Tish, 86, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Fair Havens Christian Home.
Harold was born on August 1, 1927 in Decatur, IL the son of Shirl A. and Ellen May Tish. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps., and was a member of Stephen Decatur Lodge 979 A.F. & A. M., Valley of Springfield A.A.S.R., and the Ansar Shrine. He was a Union Steward with the forestry department at Illinois Power which he worked for 40 years. He received awards from Decatur trades and Labor in 1968 and 1974. He was a Lifelong member of Cleveland United Methodist Church. He married Rae Joan Clendening in 1947. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1997.
Harold started his scouting career on March 6, 1956 as a committee man in Pack 1, Cubs Scouts. Shortly after that he joined Boy Scout Troop 1 as an Assistant Scoutmaster and in 1961 he became Scoutmaster of Troop which he served as for over 25 years. He received the Silver Beaver award for work in Scouting. His five sons are Eagles Scouts. As a Scoutmaster he has given boys an exceptional opportunity to learn and play in the outdoors through camping and outdoor enthusiasm.
Surviving are his, daughter, Debbie Damery (Mike) of Decatur, IL; sons, Tim Tish (Linda) of West Hills, CA; Rick Tish (Margo) of Morton, IL; Terry Tish (Melody) of Decatur, IL; Brian Tish (Jan) of Decatur, IL; Daren Tish of Sana Rosa, CA; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife and brother Richard Tish.
The family would like to thank the staff especially station one at Fair Havens Christian Home for the care they given to our dad.
Service to celebrate Harold’s life will be 1 PM Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Wednesday in the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7 PM open to the public. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Fair Haven Christian Home Activities Fund.
