Hazel I. Melton's Obituary
Hazel I. Melton, 89, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Hazel was born September 29, 1924, the daughter of Glenn and Minerva (Myers) Brown. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She is a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebakah’s. She loved quilting, reading, and cooking. She married James Otis Melton in 1941. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1991.
Hazel leaves behind her daughters, Margaret Marsh of Decatur, IL; Evelyn (Raymond) Broadhacker of Bethany, IL; son, Dennis (Stacy) Melton of Decatur, IL; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Freida Ellis.
Services to celebrate Hazel’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Hazel may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
