Hazel L. Pope's Obituary
DECATUR/MOWEAQUA- Hazel L. Pope, 81, of Decatur, formerly of Moweaqua, passed away at her residence on Saturday January 1, 2011.
A service to celebrate Hazel’s life will be at 1:00 PM. Wednesday January 5, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Il. Service will be officiated by Pastor Eric Ginder. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM.-8:00 PM. Tuesday January 4, 2011 at the Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial will be at Macon County Memorial Park following the funeral. Hazel was born on August 20, 1929 in Rock Port Indiana, the daughter of James and Olive Goodman. Hazel married Dorwin Gene Pope Sr. in Mt. Pulaski, Il, on December 4, 1947. Hazel was a member of New Life Tabernacle in Macon, Il.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Dorwin Gene Pope Sr. Her children: Dorwin Gene Pope Jr.(Peggy) of East Moline, Il, James Pope(Susie) of Decatur, Il, Janet Pope of Decatur, Il, Carol Howerton Childers (John) of Bloomington, Il, Roger Pope (Tammy) of Mt. Zion, Il, Beverly Gharst (Lyndle) of Decatur, Il, Kent Pope (Chris) of Mt. Zion, Il, Brenda Hutton (Kevin) of Dayton, TN. Sister-in-law Sherry Hill (Melvin) of Ramsey, Il. 25 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Carl, Sheldon and Chester Goodman, sister Gladys. We want to thank Pastor Eric Ginder (Carol) for all your support. A special thank you to Janet, for all your great love, care and devotion to our Mother. Hazel was a wonderful Wife and Mother. Mom, we love you and will miss you, but we will see you again in Heaven. Bye for now, your family.
