Helen Louise Burdick's Obituary
Helen Louise Burdick passed away peacefully and left this earth to be with her Savior in Heaven on November 29, 2024, approximately two months after celebrating her 100th birthday.
Helen was born in Canton, Illinois, on October 2, 1924, the daughter of W. A. (Alvie) Armstrong and Annie E. (Houldsworth) Armstrong. She married William Louis Burdick on June 8, 1947, in Decatur, Illinois.
Helen worked with William to found Burdick Plumbing & Heating Company in 1955, which is in the third generation of family ownership today. William Burdick preceded her in death on September 21, 2003.
Helen is remembered by her family and friends for her warm, friendly, loving disposition toward everyone she touched as the “Hostess with the Mostest” for the multiple holiday and special occasion parties held at her home. Her love and kindness were contagious. She was a faithful and beloved member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Decatur. She was a member of PEO and the PHCC Women’s Auxiliary.
Helen is survived by daughter Leslie (Tom) Cassity, son Doug (Jan) Burdick, and son Jeff (Denise) Burdick; half-sister Carie (Randy) Smith; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 2pm on Thursday, December 5, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Burdick Scholarship Fund in care of First Evangelical Lutheran Church Scholarship Committee, 250 W. Decatur St., Decatur, IL 62522, who administers the fund. She established the fund to award scholarships to deserving recipients for higher education.
