Helen E. Haynes' Obituary
Decatur – Helen E. Haynes, 94, of Decatur, passed away at 9:50 pm Thursday, February 11, 2010 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Services to celebrate Helen’s life will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 15, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Ivan Wood officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery. Helen was born April 23, 1915 in Macon County, the daughter of Thomas E. and Alice (Minich) Hays. She married Edward Haynes on June 8, 1936 in Shelbyville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1978. Helen worked at the Signal Depot during WWII. She also worked at Sears as the “Candy Lady”.
She will be sadly missed by her one daughter: Nancy (Delvin) Groves of Decatur, one brother: Vernon Hays of Decatur, four grandchildren: Debora Krall, Delvin Brett Groves, Lori Daniels, and Daniel E. Groves, seven great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, and five step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was reunited in Heaven with her husband: Edward, parents, one brother: Walter “Harold” Hays, and two sisters: Lois Sibthorp and Dorothy Quimby.
