Helen was born to proud parents, Teddy and Juanita Gordon December 12, 1943. She was the third and youngest daughter. November 5, 1961, Helen lovingly and completely united in marriage to Edward W. Lucas. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she joyfully worshipped and served in the nursery with Ed, Known as the “candy man” at church.
Helen lived her life in loving service to others. She absolutely loved children. After many heartaches through loss, Helen’s ache to be a mother was erased with the birth of her only child, Robert Joseph, March 1969. Through Robert’s childhood, Helen planned many vacations as she wanted to enjoy the U.S. and Canada with her husband and son, often bringing her parents too. Helen enjoyed preparing delicious meals for family or someone in need as well as hosting large family dinners. Helen was an incredibly artistic cake and cookie decorator. This skill was always showcased through Holiday’s, Birthday’s and other celebrations. Helen’s family always looked forward to her cooking and even things she canned from the harvest of their garden, such as jams, and relishes. She used the gift of her talents and more to be a blessing to others.
