Helen K. Morrison's Obituary
DECATUR – Helen K. Morrison, of Decatur, IL transitioned from her earthly to heavenly eternal life as she was called home by God on Monday, July 20, 2026. Through her earthly journey of 91 years, Helen touched many lives with her loving heart, humble disposition, humor, and spirit. Two of the greatest lessons Helen shared were the importance of kindness and the act of showing love to one another. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
Helen was born on March 17, 1935, in Oreana, IL, the daughter of Bazzel Eugene Rodgers and Esther Myers Rodgers. She graduated from Argenta High School in 1953 and married Carl E. Morrison on October 10, 1961, at the First Baptist Church in Decatur, IL. Helen worked at the S.S. Kresge Company as a window decorator in Decatur, IL during the 1950’s and 1960’s, and as a merchandiser for Hallmark and American Greeting Cards during the 1990’s, responsible for organizing and maintaining product displays to ensure they were appealing and well-stocked. Helen was also a homemaker, raising their four children: Teresa, John, Steven, and Craig. Helen and Carl were active members of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Decatur, IL and enjoyed involvement in church activities, as well as, visiting with friends. Vacation traveling and special road trips added extra joy when stopping to see the kids and grandkids along the way. Visiting as many National Parks as possible across the U.S. during the travel outings provided numerous opportunities to experience God’s creation, first-hand, and see the numerous variety of tree’s, nature’s creatures, glorious mountains and breath-taking oceans.
Helen is survived by her loving children: daughter, Teresa K. Morrison of San Leandro, CA; sons: John D. Morrison of Irvine, CA; Steven G. Morrison of St. Louis, MO; Craig E. (Brenda) Morrison of Decatur, IL; and grandchildren: Gianna Morrison and Christian Morrison of Irvine, CA; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, four brothers, and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation (1:00 – 2:00 p.m.) followed by the 2:00 p.m. Service officiated by Pastor Donna J. Hord, CRE; burial will immediately follow at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 4135 Mt. Auburn Road, Decatur, IL 62521. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
