Helen L. Newlin's Obituary
Decatur-Helen L. Newlin, 87, of Decatur, passed away 6:25 am Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Helen’s life were held Sunday at Tanglewood Village in Decatur with close family and friends. Burial will be at a later date in Highland Memorial Cemetery at Mt. Carmel, IL. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting her family with these arrangements.
Helen was born March 28, 1921 in Hopkins, KY a daughter of Ezra “Lester” and Cordilia (Daniel) Curneal. Helen and Harold F. Newlin married on October 22, 1938 in Hendersonville, KY. She worked as a counter clerk for Peacock Cleaners for twenty-three years.
Helen is survived by one son Alan (Bernita) Newlin of Zephyrhills, FL; three daughters; Marilyn (Richard) Ferguson of Frostproof, FL, Kay Rudd of Dalton City, IL, and Carol (Howard) Fair of Decatur, IL; five grandchildren, Regina (Harry) Wright, Stacy (Bob) Sheets, Natalie (Steve) Ziegler, Melinda (Rodger) Shafer, and Christine (Mitch) Swim; nine great grandchildren, Adam Koehler, Christopher Fletcher, Leana Fletcher, Jacob Ziegler, Gage Shafer, Hannah Swim, Megan Swim, Max Shafer, and Sydni Shafer.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter in infancy, four brothers and three sisters.
Helen’s family would like to express thanks to Dr. Newlin, and to the fifth floor staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
