Hunter Courtland Moody's Obituary
Decatur-Hunter Courtland Moody, Jr., born September 14, 1945, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2015. Courtland was surrounded by caring hospice staff, extended family, and his beloved wife Angela, a true partner and friend.
Courtland embraced life with exuberance, travelling overseas and making friends wherever he went. Courtland loved adventure and never passed up the opportunity for a new experience, be it getting his pilot’s license, deep sea fishing in Alaska, or hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Possessing a natural charisma, Courtland was often the life of the party, drawing people to him with his wit, storytelling, and easy charm.
Courtland studied engineering at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, but pursued his graduate education in accounting, ultimately becoming a Certified Public Accountant. Directly out of graduate school, he was recruited by the accounting firm Arthur Andersen in Chicago. As an entrepreneur he went on to lead Decatur Electronics, a firm that produced radar for the U.S. Military and the space program. Later in his career, he acted as a financial consultant to struggling firms and corporations.
Asked what he was most proud of in his lifetime, Courtland observed: “I loved life. I loved every minute of it. I am proud of the friends I made and the love I shared.” He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.
He is survived by his wife Angela Moody, two daughters Amanda Frazier and Melissa Moody, and three grandchildren Quinlan, Piper, and Britton.
