Imogene Walker's Obituary
Imogene Walker, 97, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away May 25, 2025, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Imogene was born in Bingham, Illinois, on December 8, 1927, the daughter of Charlie F. Rhodes and Hester O. (Earl) Rhodes. She married Clyde E. Walker on October 24, 1945, and they enjoyed nearly 40 years of married life until his death in 1985. Imogene was a member of Moundford Free Methodist Church and Mound Chapel. She had an impressively strong work ethic. The highest compliment she could pay someone was to say, “She’s (or He’s) a hard worker.” Her boundless inner strength carried her through 40 years of life as a widow and helped to explain the idiosyncrasies that endeared her to her loved ones. When she wasn’t actively working, keeping house, and encouraging others in their work, she enjoyed traveling around the United States. Her favorite “hobbies” were her house, her nice cars, and her vacations.
Imogene is survived by her children Daniel G. (Ramona) Walker of Decatur and Cheryl S. (Robert) Pope of Decatur; grandchildren Vicky (David) Gilpin, Kimberly (Jeff) Scheirer, and Ryan (Devin) Pope, and great-grandchildren Veronica, Vincent, Vivian, and Jaxon. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and many brothers and sisters.
Visitation for Imogene will be from 10am to 11am on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11am after the visitation. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
