Irene G. Overstreet's Obituary
With mixed emotions, heavy heart and joy for the incredible long life (107 years, 2 months, and 2 days), our sweet Grandmother, Irene G. Overstreet, of Decatur, IL, passed away 7:30pm September 2, 2022 in her home at Randall Residence Assisted Living, Decatur, IL.
Irene was born June 29, 1915 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Frank J. and Marie (Olenk) Purol. She married Fred W. Overstreet on September 22, 1934 in Lisle, IL. He passed away on December 16, 1979. She devoted her life to being a wife, mother, homemaker, and grandmother.
Irene is survived by her son Fred M. (Gloria) Overstreet of Heath, Ohio; grandchildren James D. Ellinger of Aurora, CO, Chris A. (Bret) Thomure of Decatur, IL, and David M. Overstreet; great-grandchildren Jami N. Windecker of Litchfield, ME, Michael O. Miller of St. Charles, MO, and Adam T. (Alayna) Miller of Washington, IL; and great-great-grandchildren Elodie May Miller and Claire Irene Miller of Washington, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Raymond Purol and Joseph Purol, sister Hene Sutter, and her daughter MaryAnn Irene Ellinger.
Irene was a strong and kind woman who never spoke ill of others. May we all exhibit the same kindness and strength.
Graveside service will be held at 1pm Monday, September 12, 2022 in Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
