Decatur- Irene M. Wiemken, 101, of Decatur, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Irene’s life will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Pastor Rachel Hacker will be officiating. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Interment will be at the Rankin Cemetery in Rankin, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Irene was born November 8, 1908 in Wentworth, S.D. the daughter of Charles and Louise (Busch) Petsch. She graduated from Lamberton High School in Lamberton, Minnesota and went on to graduate from McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis with a degree in vocal music. She worked in Chicago for many years. She married Bud Ashley and was later divorced. She married Falkard Wiemken in 1946. When they retired, they moved to St. Petersburg, Fl. There were no children.
Irene loved music and sang in the church choir and Lutheran Residence choir in Florida for many years. Irene moved to Decatur in 1993 and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Irene is survived by her niece; Joan Smith of Decatur, nephew; Charles Fering and wife Phyllis of South Haven, Minnesota and her sister-in-laws Vivian Wiemken and Adeleine Wiemken.
She was greeted into Heaven by her husband Falkard and her parents.
