Jack Lester Gordy's Obituary
Decatur-Jack Lester Gordy, 77, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in Imboden Creek Living Center with his wife by his side.
Jack was born January 16, 1936 in Decatur, the son of Lester Earl and Freida (Toole) Gordy. He graduated from Decatur High School where he was a standout athlete in football and held the school record in the shot put. He attended the University of Illinois before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army. He then went to Millikin University where he received his bachelor’s degree. He retired with thirty-one years of service from Wagner Casting Company where he was previously employed as the manager of the cost accounting and budgeting department. He then became a real estate appraiser for Ed Drobisch Co. retiring after fifteen years of service. He also officiated football for many years. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He loved woodworking, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and was an excellent dancer. He married Darla Lebo in April of 1958. She preceded him in death in November of 1979. He then married Brenda Mathis Sensenig September 30, 1981.
He leaves behind his wife Brenda, daughters Christine (Bill) Glenney, Julia (Don) Wright, and Mary Kay (Eric) Martin, stepdaughter Amy (Kent) Sterling, stepsons Christopher Kevin (Bethany) Sensenig and Earl Andrew (Kristi) Sensenig, brother Ronald (Darlene) Gordy, sister Jeanette (Pete) Daugherty, twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents and first wife.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Richard Fritz his nurses and staff and the nurses and staff at Imboden Gardens for all of their loving care.
Services to celebrate Jack’s life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 130 W. Eldorado Decatur. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
