Jack Kerns is my friend. We spoke together just 11 days ago when he returned my call. It was then that he told me that Alice had passed in March, even though I'd visited him in May.Our Father in heaven has been mindful of Jack since the day he was born. Even though there have been hardships, Jack told me, with great conviction, that The Church is true. He's always welcomed the missionaries and made it a point to call on THEM to give him priesthood blessings and to offer prayers. He always wanted to help these young Elders grow through service.I will ALWAYS REMEMBER the evening when the missionaries and I went out to visit 2 families, and after being to those homes, we still had time to visit someone else. We bowed our heads and asked Father whom we should see. The answer did not come immediately, but a nudge from the Holy Spirit got us to head down the road to the right. Once we were moving, Jack Kerns came to mind. We looked up his address, checked the GPS and we were 2 blocks from his house. When we arrived at the house, Alice immediately came to the door when we drove up. In visiting, we found out that Jack had fallen on Sunday and was in great pain. He asked for a priesthood blessing and we administered to him. He felt somewhat better and said he'd keep his doctor appointment next day. We agreed that was wise. Later he found he had some broken or cracked ribs. Indeed, Heavenly Father knew Jack's need and brought us to him. It was, and still is, a humbling experience.Jack Kerns is my friend and my brother. I look forward to being reunited with him and with Alice. What a great day that will be!
