Jack T. Smart, Sr.'s Obituary
Decatur-Jack T. Smart Sr., 83, of Decatur, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side.
Services to celebrate Jack's life will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois or the American Cancer Society. Jack was born November 20, 1927 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Melvin and Alice (Travis) Smart. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He was employed as a Systems Supervisor with Illinois Power retiring after thirty-nine years of service. He enjoyed working with stained glass, gardening, and refinishing antique furniture. He married Thelma Kronshagen January 6, 1952.
He leaves behind Thelma, his beloved wife of over fifty-nine years, sons, Terence of Decatur, Tim and wife Elaine of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Jack Jr. and wife Terri of Urbana, daughter, Peggy Stolz and husband Don of Decatur, sisters, Marilyn Ward of Oshkosh, WI and Sally Bauer and husband David of Naperville, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
