Jack E. Sutherland Jr.'s Obituary
Decatur – Jack E. Sutherland Jr., 82, of Decatur, IL, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by his children.
Jack was born July 31, 1941, in Decatur, IL, the son of Jack E. and Sue Ann (Strong) Sutherland Sr. A member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and Air Force veteran, Jack worked as a security guard for Securitas for many years. He enjoyed eating and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Jack married Doris Marie Eggiman on August 10, 1979, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2022.
Surviving are his children: Aimee (Larry) Bradshaw, Melissa (Al) Cohen, and Mark (Casandra) Sutherland; children by marriage: Kelly (Jim Irwin) Pence, Michael (Peggy Jost) Pence, and Sherrol (Alan) Knotts; grandchildren: Ashlei Amettis, Austin Deaton, Cayleb Dehority, Mark Sutherland Jr., Nicolas Sutherland, Christopher Pence, Jamie Zientara, Anthony Hobbs Jr., Erica Pence, Ariel Knotts; great-grandchildren: Lilli, Jarren, Alex, and Laini Amettis; Kaylin, Christian, and Karmyn Law, Natalee Hardy, Cortland Dehority, Chassity and Meranda Pence, Jayden, Baylie and Skylei Zientara, Keygan Sheets, Gregory Rivera, Isabella and Aiden Hobbs; siblings: Jerry Sutherland and Judy Gentry of Decatur; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris; son Todd Sutherland and son by marriage John Pence; grandchildren: Brandon Law, Tommy Pence and Dana Pence and brother Jim.
Funeral mass to celebrate Jack’s life will be 10:30am Friday, August 11, 2023, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church; visitation will be one hour before the service in the church. Burial with military rites will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
