Jacob Eugene Stanley's Obituary
Jacob Eugene Stanley, a devoted father, son, brother, and veteran, passed away on November 25, 2023, after a battle with cancer. He was born on November 20, 1981, in Decatur, to Nancy and Steven Stanley.
Jacob's journey through life was marked by dedication and service. He attended Decatur Public Schools before joining the military. He served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Constellation and in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division. His multiple tours around the world, including in Afghanistan, Iraq, and South Korea, showcased his bravery and dedication.
After active duty and while serving in the Army Reserve, Jacob went on to earn a bachelor's degree in social work from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He returned home to Decatur and has since worked at Stratas, Inc. where he was well regarded among his colleagues. His life was a testament to duty, both in uniform and out.
Jacob's love for life was as immense as his commitment to service. He was a fan of good music, the Green Bay Packers, enjoyed the simple pleasures of bonfires, and the freedom of road trips. His spirit of adventure and love for the outdoors will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Grace and Kennady, who were the lights of his life, his parents, and his siblings, Steven, Crystal, and Linda. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and his friends and colleagues. Jacob was preceded in death by his sister, Kelly.
Jacob's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during his illness.
Jacob gave his life to serve his country. In his memory, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a veteran's organization or medical foundation of your choice.
