James H. Boyd's Obituary
James H. “Jack” Boyd, 92, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Jack was born December 23, 1923, in Decatur, IL, the son of David and Gertrude (Redburn) Boyd. He is one out of eleven children. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. Jack was dedicated to his family more than any other man. He worked at Purity Bakery for 17 years in Decatur. Jack married Carol Pruitt on July 8, 1978 in Atwood, IL, and they shared 38 happy years together. He was dearly loved by all of his family and will be greatly missed.
James leaves behind his wife, Carol; sons, Rick Newberry of Decatur; Troy “Bob” Newberry of Tennessee; daughters, Kimberly Newberry of Decatur: Shirley Engstrom of Decatur; Jaime Boyd of Decatur; Tayler Boyd of Decatur; Jennifer Newberry of Benton, AR; Debbie Newberry of Flora, IL; sister, Sharon Boyd; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and nine sisters and brothers.
Honoring James’s wishes, he will be inurned at the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Services will be held at a later date.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff in the 4100 and ICU at Decatur Memorial Hospital for all their kindness and care they shared.
