James A. Curlin's Obituary
Decatur – James A. “Jay” Curlin, 89, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Jay was born May 21, 1925 in Shelby County, the son of Alba and Ada (Harlow) Curlin. He graduated from Tower Hill High School in 1943 and then graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1949 after serving in the Navy for two years during WWII. Jay worked as an electric dispatcher for Illinois Power before retiring in 1987. He accepted Christ at an early age and has regularly attended First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and attended the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class. Jay married Virginia Sue Holland on October 31, 1953 in Argenta, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Sue of Decatur; daughter in law, Betsy Curlin of Decatur; grandchildren: Laura Curlin, James Curlin and Maggie Curlin; sisters: Betty Mathias of Granite City and Peg Bennett of OR; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bryan Jay Curlin; two brothers, Marshall and Fred Curlin; sister in law, Mary Curlin; and two brothers in law: Carl Mathias and Myron Bennett.
Services to celebrate Jay’s life will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, December 28, 2014 in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
