Decatur-James Medford Dearing, 85, of Decatur passed away at 1:38 a.m. Monday, June 01, 2009 in Heartland of Decatur.
Services to celebrate James’ life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment with “Flight Home” Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. James was born August 30, 1923 in Galatia, Illinois the son of Walter G. and Ella May (Shepherd) Dearing. He was an over the rode truck driver for McBride’s Trucking. He then worked up until age 82 at Sears in Hickory Point Mall. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed boating, the outdoors, and his in ground swimming pool. He married Dorothy Jones September 17, 1942.
He leaves behind his wife of over sixty-six years, daughters; Connie Smallwood and husband Patrick of Decatur, Donna Davis and husband Darrell of Coal City, and Mary Campbell of Decatur, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son; Gary Dearing, five brothers, and two sisters.
