James I. Ellis' Obituary
Decatur – James I. Ellis, 83, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Jim was born on November 17, 1940, in Decatur, the son of Irvin L. and C. Fayette (Dickinson) Ellis. Over the years he worked at Sunbeam Bakery, Firestone, Zexel, and as a custodian at Mt. Zion School District. He was an active member who served many positions at Antioch Christian Church. Jim loved racing, was a former owner of a Midget race care and was a member of Power I Midget Racing Club. He married S. Edwina “Winnie” Morris on March 12, 1961, in Long Creek, IL.
Surviving is his wife, S. Edwina “Winnie” Ellis of Decatur; his children: Craig Ellis of IN, Todd (Christina) Ellis of Decatur, and Jami Suthard of AL; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jennifer Sue, and sisters: Roberta York and Marjorie Brown; and his loyal companion Sir Raleigh.
Visitation will be Friday, August 23, 2024, from 10am until the service time of 12pm, at Antioch Christian Church. Burial will take place at a later date in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Christian Church.
