James "Jim" Edward Barton's Obituary
James “Jim” Edward Barton, 78, of Decatur, IL passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021 with his wife and family by his side.
Jim was born to Edward M. Barton and Geneva E. Barton on May 31, 1943 in Pekin, IL. He married his wife, Rose, on September 4, 1965 in Springfield, IL
Jim was a member of The St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church. He was an excellent plant manager with a passion for safety. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. He enjoyed exercising and riding his bike. He took excellent care of Rose and loved spending time with his family, including the dogs. He had a sweet tooth and most especially for ice cream.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; his son, Kevin Barton (Robin) of Decatur; his daughters, Shawn Poettgen (Mark) of Durango, CO, and Kerri Barton of Carmel, IN; his brother Robert Barton (Edith, deceased) of Davenport, IA. He left behind six grandchildren, Matthew Chaney, Joey Chaney, Lauren Barton, Kristopher Poettgen, Kellan Poettgen and Kerilyn Poettgen. Also, six great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held at The St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday September 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM with burial to follow. A visitation will be held at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home on Thursday September 16, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
