Sharon, Jim was one of my favorites, a sweet, funny , ornery friend. Thank you for the many gifts of cookies over the years. I was so glad I was able to see Jim and you too when I brought my granddaughter in to visit my old friends at Cancer Care. I will never forget you Jim, I will see you later.
I got to know Jim when I was working at Nelson Park Golf Course and he played there. He was always worth a laugh or two and a real gentleman who loved a good day at the golf course. My condolences. Sincerely, Joe Hammel
If you look up Unforgettable Character in the dictionary, I’ll bet Jim Parker’s picture is next to it. Great heart and great humor were, in large measure, what made him the unforgettable character that he was. The world is a little less interesting for his passing. And there is a special place in heaven for him–where St Peter can keep an eye on him.

I came on the Decatur Police Department in 1977 and one of the first people I rode with was Detective Jim Parker. He was well thought of and a friend to all. Later after I retired after 30 years I again met Jim and he hadn’t changed. Still a good guy who loved his family and friends! Sorry for the loss!

My thoughts are with you Sharon and your family. I’m going to miss all of Jim’s jokes(even the dumb ones) when I’m at cancer care. It just won’t be the same. If you need anything, you’ve got my number.
My deepest sympathy to Sharon and to Jim’s family. I worked with Jim on the Decatur Police Dept. I went onto put 32 years in Law Enforcement with Decatur and Macon Co. Sheriffs Dept. In those 32 years I never worked with one any better than Jim. We were in the Detective Division and he was a natural………..A short story. Jim and I were on 3rd shift and I was his Sergeant. Jim got a call of a screaming woman. It was dead middle of winter and Jim found an abandoned Siamese Cat and he brought it to Hdq. That cat ended up at my home and it’s name was “Parker” after the man who found it and delivered it to my wife and kids in the middle of the night. God Bless and RIP Jim….
