James Arthur Rice's Obituary
Decatur-James Arthur Rice, 80, of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Decatur passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
Graveside services to celebrate James’ life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Graceland Cemetery with Pastor Joel Ruppert officiating, military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. and the “Flight Home” Ceremony concluding the service. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
James was born in Lincoln, Ill on January 18, 1929 to the late John F. and Ethel Rice. He graduated from Lincoln High School. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the 82nd airborne during the Korean Conflict. For 35 years, James worked for Caterpillar Tractor in Decatur and retired as a unit adjuster. He married Mary Alice Jay, formerly of Monticello, December 31, 1965. After retirement, he and Mary moved to Ocala, FL in 1985 where he resided until his death.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary A. Rice; two sisters, Lois Loomis and Joyce Brady; 3 stepchildren, Dennis, Charlotte, and Mary K.; and 9 step-grandchildren.
James is preceded in death by both his parents, a daughter, Joyce Ellen Rice, sister, Helen Kindred, and brothers, Bob and Bill Rice.
