James Edward Tackaberry Sr.'s Obituary
James Edward Tackaberry, Sr., 84 of Decatur, IL, passed away on Tuesday (06-21-2022) at 11:28 P.M. in his residence.
Jim was born on September 13, 1937 in Litchfield, IL, the son of Archie Dewey Tackaberry and Ida Bell (Sadler) Tackaberry. He married Rosemary Bowden on July 1st, 1958. His wife of nearly 64 years survives him.
He was a member of Oak Grove and Westside Church of the Nazarene over his adult life and devoted his service to God through those churches. James was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a meatcutter over a span of almost 35 years, most of those for A&P here in Decatur, IL. He loved his family, grandchildren, fishing, vegetable gardening, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary of Decatur, IL, children: Edwin Archer Tackaberry of Decatur, IL, Wayne Michael Tackaberry of Decatur, IL, Teresa Diane Richardson and husband Darrel of North Ft. Myers, FL, James Edward Tackaberry, Jr. of Decatur, IL, Katie Lee Cook and husband Kevin of Normal, IL, and Jeff Todd Tackaberry and wife Amy of Tiffin, IA, 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother Wilbur Tackaberry and one sister Shirley Hughes.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday (06-26-2022) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home, officiated by his son Jeff Tackaberry, with visitation from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to Westside Church of the Nazarene or Wounded Warrior Project.
