James Harris Veech's Obituary
Oakley-James Harris Veech, 65, of Oakley, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 in his home with his family by his side.
Private family graveside services to celebrate Jim's life will be at the Columbarium in Graceland Cemetery with the 'Flight Home' Ceremony to conclude the service. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Care Specialist of Central Illinois.
James was born October 9, 1947 in Decatur the son of Wayne 'Pete' and Emma (Harris) Veech. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School. He was previously employed as a quality control technician with A.E. Staley with thirty years of service. Refusing to return after the lockout Jim went to work as a parts manager for Dick Van Dyke retiring with over ten years of service. He enjoyed muscle cars, trivia, old movies, and reading. He was a member of the Phil N. Broke APA pool team. He will always be remembered as a very bright, witty man with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor.
He leaves behind his soul mate and best friend Rita Veech of Oakley, daughter Mindy Veech Flach of Oakley, sister Patricia Spriggs of Decatur, grandchildren Raye Marie Veech, Emma Jayne Veech, and Brenden James Harris Flach, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Hall, and niece Christine.
