Janet M Baerwaldt's Obituary
Janet M. Baerwaldt 81 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 22, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Mrs. Baerwaldt was born, raised and educated in Belleville Il. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1964. In the years of raising her children, Janet and family lived in Iowa City, IA, Athens, GA, and Greeneville, TN before settling in Decatur, Il.
It was in Decatur that Janet began her 30-year career in the travel industry. She was employed between the offices of Franklin Travel and Atlas Travel, with many fond memories of planning rewarding trips for her customers. Janet’s favorite domestic destinations were Alaska, San Francisco, the wine country and Louisville, KY. She enjoyed Alaska and Caribbean cruises and one Holland at Tulip Time Cruise. Among Janet’s favorite international destinations were Germany (Oktoberfest), Austria (Salzburg and Vienna), and England (London).
Janet was an avid reader and enjoyed cross stitching and making felt Christmas ornaments as well as jigsaw puzzles, collecting cookbooks and trying new recipes. Most of all she enjoyed time with her family and friends.
Janet is predeceased by her parents, William and Marie Sprague Weis, sister Diane Weis, and sister Judith A. DiGiovanni.
She was survived by her husband of 34 years, Richard Baerwaldt and her three loving daughters from her previous marriage to Ralph Czerwinski: Jacqueline Sumner (Michael), Therese Czerwinski (Richard Garcia), Tanya Burda (Robert); siblings Katherine, William, John and James; grandchildren, Alexander, Kathryn, Megan and Samuel; step-children, Bradley Baerwaldt (Catherine) and Melissa Houston (Leroy); step-grandchildren, Avery and Julia, Kaleb and Adyn.
