Janice Arlene Gunter's Obituary
Janice Arlene Gunter, 64, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday December 29, 2015, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Janice was born February 18, 1951, in Decatur, IL., to Dooley Madison and Mildred Louise (Garrett) Summers. She married John Gunter on December 13, 1968. She was a loving housewife, an avid “gamer”. She enjoyed fishing, making blankets for her family, and spending time with family. She will be dearly missed by all whom loved her.
She is survived by her husband, John Gunter Sr. of Decatur; son, John E. Gunter Jr. of Decatur; daughters, Sherry L. (Lawrence) Slemp of Argenta, IL., Julie R. (Wayne) Lackie of Monticello; brother, Ted (Sharon) Summers of Decatur, IL; sister, Connie L. (Ben) Shafer of Ramsey, IL; grandchildren, Brittany, Renee, John, Zach, Leanna, Taylor, Hannah, Carter; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Camden, and two more great-grandchildren on the way, one being “Hank”, and a host of nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members. She also leaves behind her pet parrot, “Jake”, whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Billy Summers and Tommy Summers.
The family will be hosting a memorial gathering at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the 2nd Church of God, 2670 E. Division Street, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to the wishes of the family in C/O John Gunter.
