Jay Daniel Poling, 81, of Decatur, IL, passed away December 4, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. Jay was born Mach 4, 1938 in Decatur, IL, the son of, Jacob and Ruby (Copeland) Poling. He married Shirley Dubson o Read Obituary
Jay was 5 years older than me so we didn’t spend a lot of time together. The things I do remember are playing horse on an old concrete slab basketball court, shooting sparrows out of the grain bins at night with BB guns, playing Monopoly and Dominos and having corn cob fights in the old corn cob factory. This was of course all in Milmine. He was always kind and gracious to us younger cousins. Jack Poling (aka Jack Richard, JR)
Dear Shirley and Family:
I was extremely sad when is saw the Obituary of Jay’s passing in the paper. I want you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your Family. Although I did not know Jay very well, but I remember having been invited one Thanksgiving to your home for Dinner, as well as having been kindly invited to your Parent’s home for Christmas. Jay was a very friendly gentleman, very intelligent and had a sense of humor, which made it easy for me and my children to be at ease and comfortable. Shirley, We are very sorry for your loss. Jay was a great guy. He was so patient with us trying to teach us bridge. We were very fond of him. His smile would light up a room. I remember the newsletters he put out for Golden K. We looked forward to them. Jay’s humorous jokes tickled us. We are so glad we got to take the Riverboat trip with you to The Netherlands. Our prayers are with your wonderful family.
