Jean L. Sheehy's Obituary
Jean Laurice “Reecy” Sheehy – July 25, 1939 –August 19, 2016
Our highly-spirited loved one was called to heaven early the morning of August 19, 2016. Our purple-haired wonderful was called far too soon by our Lord after a brief but graceful battle with cancer. At her side and providing solace as she began her ascent to the gates of heaven were her husband of 52 years, four children and 2 eldest grandchildren.
“She loved nothing more than her family being together,” said her son Patrick. “She enjoyed all the commotion – the laughter and the banter between all the kids and their friends. She was in the thick of it all. It brought her tremendous joy and pride.”
Reecy was the epitome of no rolling stone gathers moss. “She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten. That was mom,” her daughter, Leigh, said. “Mom loved traveling, gardening, holidays, movies, plays, shopping and decorating. She had such a zest for life.”
Her best friend, Johnny, continuously had to catch his breath to keep up with her throughout their loving moments together. He will miss her deeply. “From New York to California, it was always an adventure. All our times together were a celebration of life, “said her son, Johnny.
Michael said, “There is no love stronger than that of a mother for their child. Mom made me feel that way every day, “She was my anchor supporting everything I ever did and encouraging me to do more. It is the legacy I will always cherish”
Reecy’s husband, Jerry, said, “I was blessed to have someone with the strength, courage, dignity, commitment and pure beauty you represented each and every day to me and our children. I am lost without you and can’t wait until we are together again.” Mom knew no strangers. Her love was far reaching and unconditional. She considered all she met a friend. They were her extended family. This was never more prevalent then her love for her daughter-in-law, Kelly, and son-in-law, Joe. She loved them dearly.
Reecy is greatly admired and loved by her seven grandchildren and her great grandson. She absolutely adored them all. Casey, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Cloe, Beckham, Caroline, Quinn and Aidan will miss her tremendously.
One last “Meow” to you, Momma!
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church, 2400 S. Franklin Church St., Decatur, IL , on Friday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life will be held immediately following the church service.
