Jeanette Stone's Obituary
Decatur- Jeanette M. Stone, 93, of Decatur, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at St Mary’s Hospital.
A service to celebrate the life of Jeanette will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in the chapel at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with a visitation 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment with “Flight Home” ceremony will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Macon County Humane Society.
Jeanette was born January 12, 1918 in West Liberty, Kentucky the oldest of six children to Morton Allen and Mary (Thomas) Neal. Having grown up in the depression she had to leave school early to care for her five siblings while her parents worked day and night to provide a living for them. Jeanette married George Homer Stone; October 1939 in Crawfordsville, IN to that union was born two daughters, Mary Louise and Connie Susan. Following her husband’s death she worked as a restaurant cook in the Maroa and Decatur area. She was an excellent cook and well known for the candy she made at Christmas time. Jeanette loved flowers and would spend hours working in her flower garden. She was a member of Independent Worship Group at Imboden Creek Gardens.
She survived by two her daughters, Mary Stone, and Connie Stone both of Decatur; one brother, Harrison Neal of West Liberty, KY; sister-in-law, Dora Neal of Clinton; Aunt, Doris Thomas of Farmer Cit; nieces and nephews, Teri Nixon and Sheldon Neal of California; Thomas Neal of Florida; James Elam of Iowa; Her very special adopted family Carl and Connie Moore, Cary, Cindy, Christopher, Chris, Denise, Kolton and Kyle Moore all of Decatur; special grandson, Michael Rambo of Decatur; special neighbors, Pauline Jones, Cynthia Rambo, Ron McFarland, Joe, Becky, Caleb, and Mindy Luka; her very special friends, Betty Mathes, Marilyn Markwell, Ellen Hazelrigg, Jerry and Susie Bean, Mary Epping, rose Davidson, Judy Gardner, Martha Keefer, Connie Cook, Jean Lamb and Donna Caudil and her beloved Annabelle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, and one sister.
The family would like to thank Rev. Doug and Pat Sleade and the Independent Worship Group at Imboden Creek Gardens for their many prayers, phone calls and hospital visits on Jeanette’s behalf. Special thank you goes to Jerry Bean for his kindness to take care of Jeanette’s hair during her illness. A special thank you goes to Dr. Craig Brown, Dr. Brian Telle, and Dr. Dan Smith for their compassion and wonderful care given to Jeanette. Her daughter’s would like to thank Cathy Moroney and Carol Grider of St. Mary’s Hospital for their kindness and understanding for allowing Connie to work from home while Jeanette required around the clock care. A very special thank you goes to Betty Mathes, Marilyn Markwell, Connie Moore and Jerry Bean for always being there for Jeanette and her family.
