Jerome "Jerry" Frederick Greive's Obituary
Jerome (Jerry) Frederick Greive, 84, of Decatur, passed away at 7:07 a.m. Sunday, February 24, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur IL.
Jerry was born March 26, 1928, in Greendale IN to parents Christian and Norma Greive. He married Jocelyn (Joy) Link on August 23, 1952 in Greendale IN.
He received his master’s degree from University of Cincinnati and his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University. He was an English teacher at Lawrenceburg High School in Lawrenceburg, IN; Taylor High School in North Bend, OH; and Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur, IL. He lettered in tennis at Indiana State University, started the swim team at Taylor High School, and managed the Greendale swimming pool. He was an avid reader and enjoyed opera.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William Greive, and his twin sister, Jeanne Westerfeld.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joy, five daughters Janice (Dave) Buxton of Normal IL, Julie (Mark) Rotz of Mt. Zion IL, Jerilyn O'Driscoll of Bloomington IL, Jenelle (Jeff) Weaver of Urbana IL, Jill (Erick) Hubbard of Decatur IL, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
A private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Decatur Public Library or Come Together Let's Walk.
