Jerry also has 9 grandkids Gavin, Vivian, Sebastian, Jack, Jane, Max, Makena, Greydon, and Connor. Jerry is also survived by many close friends.
Born in Decatur, Illinois and raised in Argenta, Illinois, Jerry was known throughout his life for his steady nature, quiet strength, and deep loyalty to those he cared about. As a young man, he excelled in athletics, especially baseball, where he played shortstop and pitched during his high school years at Argenta-Oreana High School. He also developed a love for the outdoors and hunting that remained with him throughout his life.
After high school in 1965, Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps alongside close friends and was deployed to Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, Jerry was awarded 2 purple heart medals. His service shaped his appreciation for perseverance, friendship, and resilience, though he rarely focused on the hardships he endured. Following his military service, he returned home to Central Illinois and built a life centered on hard work and family.
Jerry spent many years working at the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company plant in Decatur, where he was respected for his dedication and strong work ethic. He retired from Firestone after 35+ years.
Those who knew Jerry will remember his thoughtful nature, his dry sense of humor, and the calm wisdom he carried through life. He loved the outdoors, working in his yard, playing golf, watching most sports, a cold beer, and treasured time spent with friends and loved ones.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday (06-04-2026) at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Military Rites will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
