Jewell M. Smith's Obituary
Decatur – Jewell Margaret Smith, 96, of Decatur, went to her Eternal Home at 5:00 am Monday, September 7, 2009 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services to celebrate Jewell’s life will be held at 10:30 am Friday, September 11, 2009 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Blankenship officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Memorial contributions may be sent to Tabernacle Church, Lampstand Ministries or Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Jewell was born March 27, 1913 in Cooks Mill, Illinois, the daughter of Dudley and Lucinda (Daily) Young. She married Frank D. Smith on October 23, 1946 in Mattoon. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1992. Frank and Jewell were the proud owners of Smith Groceries in Hammond, Illinois and Jewell’s Restaurant in Decatur and Mattoon. She was a member Calvary Baptist Church in Mattoon, Illinois and Tabernacle Baptist Church in Decatur, Illinois.
She leaves behind her one daughter: Penny (Gary) Vadakin of Decatur, one son: Mark “Rusty” (Suzanne) Smith of Spring Hill, Florida, one sister: Eudora (George) French of Raleigh Durham, North Carolina, grandchildren: Stacey (Chris Hoffmann) Hauskins and Chad (Kelly) Hauskins, Cody Vadakin, Ryan and Marc Smith, Ben and Kylie Rhodes, great grandchildren: Lexie and Ella Hauskins, Jessica Hill, Brooklyn and Owen Rhodes, Avre, Alex and Andrew Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
She was reunited in Heaven with her husband: Frank, parents, and six sisters: Ethel (Buck) Briggs, Blondie (Dayton) Gabriel, Blanche (Clarence) Beltz, Grace Young, Eva Young, and Gale Young.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. D. Patel, DMH 4100, McKinley Court, and the Oxford House.
