Jim D Carnahan's Obituary
Jim D Carnahan, 87, formerly of Boody, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25th, 2024, at home surrounded by generations of loved ones. Jim was born on December 10th, 1936, to George Larkin Carnahan and Verlie Estelle (Copas) Carnahan. Jim married Sondra Perkins and together they had Pat, Penny, Kathy, and Ericka, before divorcing. Jim was a longtime resident of Boody, IL, but prior to that he lived and spent much of his time on the coast of California. In his early adulthood he spent most of his spare time deep sea fishing and hunting. Deep Sea fishing was his very favorite hobby and he loved being out on the ocean fishing with his buddies. In later years, Jim enjoyed time with family, gardening vegetables, canning, cooking, and watching a good old western film. Jim retired early from the Sheet Metal Workers Union in San Ramon CA, and then returned to Central IL. Jim spent his retired years traveling from state to state, visiting his family, and attending all their big events that he could possibly make it to. He made a point of visiting his family so often that even those who lived across the country knew his love and were able to experience the joy it was to be loved by him. Jim was a “snowbird”, and spent many winters at Kelly’s RV Park in Florida, where he met his partner of over 20 years, the love of his life, Dorothy Rose.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Mary Eloise, Claude, LaVerne, Joyce, Wayne, and Jack. Jim is survived by his siblings- Jean Taylor, Roger (Norma) Carnahan, and Joe (Georgann) Carnahan, his partner, Dorothy, his children- Pat Carnahan, Penny (Mike) Hickey, Kathy (David Ihle) Peardon, Ericka Carnahan, and daughter in-law Donna Carnahan, 8 Grandchildren- Veronica (Joe) Hattrup, Jennifer Trevino, Lindsey Sandoval, Christopher (Nicki) Carnahan, Kyle Sandoval, Amanda (Shawn) Cunningham, Steven Carnahan, and Orey Carnahan-Riley, and 10 Great Grandchildren- Larissa, Leland, Olivia, Ashlyn, Brian, Dorian, Jenna, Noah, Fiona, and Sebastian, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of which he loved very much.
Special thanks to all those who helped care for Jim the last years of his life when he was no longer able to care for himself- Donna & Julie, Steven & Chey, Betty, his friend and helper Cathy Walters, the wonderful staff at Enhabit Hospice, his daughter Kathy, and to David Ihle whose care enabled us to keep him home until very end.
There will be no service at this time. The family will have private memorial service in the San Fransico Bay Area later, per Jim’s request. Donations in his honor can be made to The American Cancer Society or Cancer Care Specialists of IL.
