J.K. Kenny Smith's Obituary
J.K. "Kenny" Smith, 91, of Mt. Zion, formerly of Decatur, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in Heritage Health, Mt. Zion.
Mr. Smith was born August 31, 1921, in Decatur, son of James Albert and Fannie Mae (Rose) Smith. A member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Army veteran of WWII and Purple Heart recipient, Mr. Smith was the owner of Smith Home Building and Excavating. He married Grace Helen Matherly May 30, 1942 and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2012. Also preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Judy Ann, and brothers: Loren, Harold and William.
Surviving are his sons: Darrell (Vicki) Smith of Decatur, Steven (Mary Ann) Smith of Tybee Island, GA, and Larry G. (Nila) Smith of Chapin, SC; grandchildren: Stacey, Larry Jr., Lorraine, Linda, Shannon and Andrew Smith; six great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday September 16, 2012 from 2 to 4 pm in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Services to celebrate his life will be 10 am Monday, September 17, 2012 in the funeral Home. Entombment will be in Graceland Cemetery Pieta Mausoleum with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials: Heritage Health, Mt. Zion.
