I am tremendously sorry to just now find out about Joanne Niehay’s passing. My family and I were Decatur residents from 1995 to 2001. Our youngest son, Kevin, was fortunate enough to have Joanne not one year but two years in a row (2nd & 3rd grades) at Baum Elementary School. Joanne was truly one of the best and most gifted teachers we have ever known in all our years in education. Her creativity, genuine love of her students and teaching were truly remarkable. She always conducted herself with grace and dignity, and of course I admired her level of fitness too! John and families, we are truly sorry for your loss. May Joanne rest in heavenly peace.
