Joe R. "Joe Bob" Green's Obituary
Decatur – Joe R. “Joe Bob” Green, 77, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Joe Bob was born December 9, 1936 in Decatur the son of Ross A. and Helen B. (Vantreas) Green. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of First Baptist Church. Joe Bob was also a member and past Commander of the Forsyth VFW. He sold cars most of his adult life and had said that he has sold over 10,000 vehicles during his career. Joe Bob married Barbara Mercer on January 1, 1987 in Decatur.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children: Mark C. Green of Evansville, IN, Michele (Al) Sondej of Bolingbrook, Dennis R. (Terri) Cowin of Branson, MO, Dawn (Jeffrey) Klingenberg of Benbrook, TX, and Vicki (Tim) Gilbert of Forsyth; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Ronald) Boston of Mechanicsburg; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joe Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
Services to celebrate Joe Bob’s life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial with military rites will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society.
