Joe Allan McDuffie's Obituary
Joe Allan McDuffie, 78, of Decatur, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Joe was born June 3, 1940, in Decatur, the son of Joseph Montell and Alice Naomi (Slightom) McDuffie. Joe married Judith Kimble on November 19, 1961 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Decatur. She survives.
Also surviving are their children, Christine Braun of Peoria; Carolyn Sue Thomas of Plant City, Florida; Joe Allen (Valerie) McDuffie II of East Peoria; Charles “Glenn” McDuffie of Oakley; and Dawn (David) Brix of Decatur; twelve grandchildren, Bridget, Jonathon, Justin, Ryne, Julia, Elizabeth (Tyler), Carissa, Dani, Dylan, Carter, Briana, and GaBrielle; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don (Kay) McDuffie and Brian (Maria) McDuffie; a sister, Molly (Danny) Stukins; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Scooby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Judy Flot.
Joe served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 – 1961 during the Berlin Crisis. He worked at Firestone for 30 years. Later in life, he loved to farm, fish, play cards, and scratch off lottery tickets.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team on the 5th floor at Decatur Memorial Hospital for their kindness and compassion they gave Joe. They also would like to thank his RN, Danielle and the two CNA’s that helped support Judy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Garver Brick United Methodist Church in Decatur. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., two hours prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church. The Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Joe. Condolences may be sent to his family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
