John Albert Griffet's Obituary
John Albert (Johnny) Griffet 79, of Harristown, Illinois, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Sullivan Rehab in Sullivan retiring from his earthly duties as father, friend and loving husband of thirty-five years
He was born July 20, 1938 in Niantic, Illinois, the son of Jesse J. and Goldie (Pride) Griffet. He worked at the Macon County Landfill for many years.
He was a Jack of all trades. He loved country music, NASCAR and going to Macon speedway and the Spingfield Mile with his life-long friends.
In his younger years he loved mushroom hunting and boating he was an outdoors man last of the old cowboys. He had a few great loves in his life. He married Nancy Sue Reed on January 1, 1983.
Surviving are his wife; Nancy, daughters Vickie Laughlin (Cookie) of Marion, Illinois, Jessica West (Jason) of Decatur, Illinois, and Brandy Hernandez of Odessa, Texas, son Johnny Griffet of Redding, California, stepson Ed Carnahan stepdaughter Cheryl Whitaker, daughter-in-law Sherry Griffet, aunt Vivian Pride, grandson Damien Griffet, step-grandsons Setin West, Jordan West, Cody Sleeth granddaughters Tesla Carnahan, Selina Carnahan, Shannon Buck, Shayla Clifton, great-grandchildren Austin, Gavin, Zach, Haley, and Lexi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley, beloved sons David E. Griffet and Richard Lee (RG) Griffet, grandchildren, Marie, Joshua, Sebrina, Jason and his many friends he has lost along the years.
John wasn’t much for big funerals but he loved socializing and being with his friends therefore we would like to have a celebration of life and dinner at the Harristown Community Building on a later date. To tip our hats and say goodbye to our loved Honorary Mayor of Wyckles Corner. Rest easy Ol’ Boy you will never be forgotten.
