John William Hobson's Obituary
John William Hobson, 90, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
John was born April 4, 1922 in Winslow, IN, son of Ray S. and Lela (Barnett) Hobson. He worked for 30 plus years at Caterpillar as an inspector until retiring. John served in the United States Army during WWII where he was in the first trucking division to cross the Rhine River on the bridge at Remagen. He attended First Christian Church, was a member of the NRA and was proud to have made an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. John looked forward to attending his Army reunions every year with his Army comrades. He was an avid hunter, gardener and travler. John married Elma Lee Cain on June 12, 1948 in Indiana and she preceded him in death on July 12, 1980. Also preceding him in death were his parents and son, Jerry John Hobson.
Surviving is his daughter, Sherri (Loren) Mahan of Decatur; grandson, Travis Mahan and great grandchildren: Gabriel and Abigail Mahan.
Graveside service will be 10 am Friday, November 23, 2012 in Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial may be made to: Scovill Zoo or Salvation Army.
