John Andrew Holmgren's Obituary
John Andrew Holmgren, 76, of Blue Mound, IL., passed away at 2:54 A.M. on Saturday (10-30-2021) at St. Mary’s Hospital Decatur, IL.
John was born on June 6, 1945 in Mankato, Minnesota, the son of Elmer Carl Holmgren and Gertrude Fredricka (Aasen) Holmgren. He married Terry Lou Tipsword on July 3rd, 1968 in Decatur, IL.
He was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church, involved in UMM and served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam being stationed at Udorn RTAFB in Thailand. John was a founding member of Blue Mound American Legion Post #1107 and was a member of Masonic Lodge # 682 in Blue Mound, IL. He enjoyed woodworking, fixing anything that was broken and he made thousands of crosses from nails and barbed wire that he welded together which he gave away to so many people at the Great Banquet. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and their pets.
John is survived by his wife Terry of Blue Mound, IL.; son: John Andrew Holmgren, Jr. and wife Elizabeth Irene of Decatur, IL.; daughter: Jodi Linn True and husband Kelly J. of Blue Mound, IL.; three grandchildren: Andrew Joseph Holmgren of Kyle, TX, Nathan Lynn True of Blue Mound, IL.; and Karrigan Renae True of Blue Mound, IL.; sister: Mary Ann Beaumont and husband Thomas of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (11-06-2021) at Blue Mound United Methodist Church with visitation from 9:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Blue Mound, IL.
