John W. Hughes' Obituary
John W. Hughes, 85, of Decatur passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013 in Imboden Creek Living Center.
Services to celebrate John's life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Graceland/ Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
John was born September 8, 1927 in Decatur, IL, the son of Charles and Almyra (Alexander) Hughes. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1945, and served proudly for his country in the Navy. He began his career at Rath Packing Company,and then started his own business, Hughes Frozen Foods which was a local distributor in the Decatur area. He retired from his business in 1977. He had an incredible artistic ability that included intricate woodworking and design. He met his wife Marilyn Ford and they were married on April 21, 1956 in Pekin, IL. She preceded him in death on January 9, 1997.
John leaves behind his daughters, Debra (Keith) Boaz of Decatur; Kathleen Hughes Anderson of Menlo Park, CA; grandchildren, Laura Boaz-Feriozzi of Decatur; Colin Adams of Mt. Zion; brother Edwin (Barbara) Hughes of Tuscon, AZ; and sister Barbara (Ronald) Butts of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and daughter Jill Adams.
