John Vernon Isome's Obituary
John Vernon Isome, 83, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, in Hillsboro, IL.
He was born on April 28, 1942, in Decatur, IL, to the late Clarence Earl Isome and Virginia Fisher Isome. John graduated from Eisenhower High School class of 1960 before enlisting to serve his country in the United States Army from 1961-1963 as a Radar Operator. Afterward, he went on to work as an electrician at Wagner Castings Company until his retirement in 2005.
John was a member of Allied Industrial Workers Local 837 of Decatur. Additionally, he volunteered at Holy Family School fish fries, pancake breakfasts, and as hall monitor for basketball games.
Any time that he could spend outdoors was time that he considered well-spent. He especially enjoyed visiting state parks, going to the Shelbyville marina and campgrounds, and traveling to see his children. Additionally, he enjoyed watching Western movies, going to drag races, tinkering with audio/visual electronics, and he had a knack for photography.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Anderson Isome; children, Heath Isome, Marco Isome and wife Meredith, Heather Isome, and Theresa Isome; and grandchildren, Trenton Isome and Hailee Isome.
Visitation for John Isome will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM, with military rites and burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery.
