John W. Jackson's Obituary
John W. Jackson, 73, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Heartland of Decatur.
John was born on December 1, 1940 in Moweaqua, IL the son of Charles Wesley and Mable (Forbes) Jackson. He worked for Mason Steel and retired from Bridgestone/Firestone after 32 years of service. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the VFW Post #99, MOC, DAV, and former member of the Macon County Honor Guard. He liked boating, fishing, and helping people. He married Gloria McGee on July 17, 1982 in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Gloria; daughters, Julie and Lynette; step-sons, Jeff Scharfenberg (Mindy) of Decatur; James Wright (Jane) of Stone Mountain, GA; grandchildren, Chelsea Scharfenberg, Gage Scharfenberg , and Chloe Scharfenberg; and great-grandchild, Landon Scharfenberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service to celebrate John’s life will be 2 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in Graceland cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1-2 PM Tuesday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation or St. Joseph Indian School.
