John Harry Margias' Obituary
John Harry Margias, 83, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away February 5, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
John was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 25, 1942, the son of Harry and Ruth (Bork) Margias. He married Kathleen Moran on December 13, 1969, in Decatur, and they enjoyed over 25 years of married life until her death in 1995.
John was a technician at Decatur Electronics, where he worked for 45 years until retirement. Even in his free time, he found joy in computers and other electronics. Music was a passion, and he shared his talent by playing piano, organ, and guitar for his friends and family. He was a longtime faithful member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Decatur.
John is survived by his siblings Ann Brown, Patricia Dalluge, George Margias, Norma (Kervin) Von Behren, and Pete Margias; nephew Brian Moran; cousin Mike (Karen) Reynolds; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Kathleen.
Visitation for John will be from 10am to 11am on Friday, February 13, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11am. Burial in Mt. Gilead Cemetery will follow the service.
