John L. Nelms' Obituary
John L. Nelms departed this life and entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday, September 13, 2021 at his home in Decatur, IL.
John was born on September 8, 1962 to the late John (JW) Wesley Nelms and Rosie Lee (Thompson) Nelms in Crawfordsville, Arkansas. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. Johnny graduated from Lakeview High School in Decatur, IL. Johnny enlisted in the US Air Force on February 11, 1982 and received an Honorable discharge. He had a love for electronics, gaming, drones and cameras. Johnny was a former employee of the Decatur Animal Control.
He was preceded in death by his parents’ JW and Rosie Nelms, his brother’ Frankie Nelms, grandparents’ TJ Thompson Sr and Willie B. Thompson and Wesley Nelms and Katherine Stewart, step grandmother’ Birda Thompson, grandson’ Raphael Nelms, uncles’ Frank Thompson, Henry J. Thompson, Robert Thompson, James A. Nelms Sr, Moses G. Thompson, James Williams, John W. Thompson, Charles Thompson, James M. Williams and Chris Thompson, aunts’ Ethel Conley, Sarah Thomas, Irene Wright, Alma Warren and Beatrice Floyd.
He leaves behind to celebrates his life: a son’ Julian Nelms, a daughter’ Macy Nelms, grandsons’ Russell Nelms and Ezra Harper, brothers’ Wesley (Vicki) Pryor, Herman Nelms and Soloman Pryor, sister’ Shirley Nelms, uncles’ Herman Thompson, TJ (Joyce) Thompson Jr, Edward Nelms Sr, Roosevelt (Elizabeth) Thompson, Harvey (Dorothy) Thompson, Johnny (Juanita) Hunt, Eddie (Vickie) Thompson, Iris L. (Sharrell) Thompson Sr, John H. (Latonya) Thompson and Carl Stokes, aunts’ Stella Thompson, Hattie Rudd, Nancy Thompson, Charleen Hale and Patricia Nelms Johnson, longtime friends’ Michael Morris, Oliver Knotts and Bob Hadley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished family members and friends.
Homegoing services to celebrate John’s life will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, Decatur, IL.
